Special Exhibitions in the Café
Das Leben der Anderen (2006)
Surveillance on the Silver Screen
You are surrounded by eyes that never rest; by cameras and microphones that are never turned off. You are being filmed by monitoring camera on the bus, on the train, and in the street. The homepages you visit and the phone numbers you call are being registered. Some would claim that you are living in a surveillance society.
The surveillance society has been a gloomy theme in the history of as well communication as film. Dismal future scenarios like George Orwell's 1984 have given filmgoers a scare and been a significant element of a social debate which is still raging.
In the museum café Post & Tele Museum presents a selection of posters from films all thematizing the subject: Blowup (1966), The Conversation (1974), 1984 (1984), Brazil (1985), V for vendetta (2005), Das Leben der Anderen (2006), and Zoomerne (2009).
The posters are courtesy of Sandrew Metronome, SF Film, and Zentropa. The exhibition in the café can be seen until 11th April 2010.
The film posters are on display in connection with the museum's special exhibition Surveillance. Read more here
