Special Exhibitions in the Café
How much space do 10,400 subscribers take up?
Come and see a 13-metre-long switchboard which was used for more than 50 years. The switchboard constituted the Hellerup telephone exchange and served an important function as the core of all the telephone traffic to and from the subscribers. A few months back, it was still located in Hellerup but from April 2012 you can experience this impressive switchboard at the Post & Tele Museum. Until then, a selection of photos is on display at Café Hovedtelegrafen.
Despite its huge size, the Hellerup exchange only makes up a small part of the Post & Tele Museum’s new exhibition “The Century of Communication after 1920”. This is part of the museum’s permanent exhibition and tells about the time after 1920. Come and experience it with your family and get all the stories from when grandpa was young and phones with dials were the latest fashion. Or go and explore the time when text messages were written with the thumb instead of the index finger.
The museum’s new exhibition “The Century of Communication after 1920” opens in April 2012. Admission to the museum is free and we are open every day of the week from 10am to 4pm.
